Penalties can include fines, jail time, license suspension, and other consequences depending on the offense and prior convictions

In Houston, Texas, a misdemeanor is a less serious criminal offense than a felony, punishable by up to one year in county jail and/or a fine of up to $4,000, and is classified into Class A, B, and C categories based on severity.

In Houston, a felony is a serious crime punishable by more than a year in prison, with Texas law classifying them into five classes based on severity, ranging from capital felonies (potentially punishable by death) to state jail felonies.
